Johannesburg, 09 December 2019 —We’re proud to announce that Autoboys has become the first South African auto glass and aftermarket parts supplier with a national network to achieve a level 1 B-BBEE status.
We aim to serve our customers with the highest standards, but we also see ourselves as playing a key role in helping to uplift and empower our society.
We started our transformation journey in 2017 when African Rainbow Capital (ARC) acquired a 51% stake in our business, making us the most transformed provider in the market. However, we wanted to make an even more meaningful impact when it came to transformation. This is why we embarked on a process over the last 18 months to participate in the highly acclaimed Y.E.S empowerment programme, created over 200 new internal jobs, and helped fund 24 staff members with their BCom studies and advanced certificates in Business Management.
While B-BBEE is constantly evolving and still has a long way to go in terms of helping to reduce inequality, we believe that corporates have a moral and civic duty to ensure that transformation is taken seriously. Ultimately, this will be for the betterment of our society and for a more inclusive economy over the long-term. Achieving a level 1 B-BBEE status has also continued to entrench us as a necessary disruptor in the South African automotive industry. Over the years, we’ve brought far greater competition to the entrenched tier 1 and tier 2 glass and parts providers that have been mainstays of the South African automotive industry. In turn, we’ve also focused heavily on helping empower SMEs, such as workshops, across the country.
Finally, we’re a proud partner of the Right to Repair South Africa (R2RSA) initiative which has made great strides in helping to do away with monopolistic and uncompetitive practices when it comes to issues such as embedded warranties and motor plans. We therefore aim to continue this exciting journey and we’d like to thank all our customers and partners for being there with us every step of the way.
